Open Positions
We are always looking for motivated researchers to join our interdisciplinary team at the intersection of acoustofluidics, microfabrication, and biomedical engineering.
Our group develops micro- and nanofluidic technologies that use sound waves to manipulate biological particles such as extracellular vesicles, cells, and nanoparticles. By combining acoustofluidics, microfabrication and bioanalytical methods, we aim to create next-generation diagnostic and therapeutic tools for personalized medicine.
We welcome applications from candidates with backgrounds in:
- Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, EV-Biology or related fields
-
Experience in one or more of the following:
- Microfluidic design and fabrication
- Acoustofluidics or micro-scale particle manipulation
- Cell culture, extracellular vesicle analysis, or biomolecular assays
- Finite element simulations
- Fluorescence microscopy and image-based analysis
- Bioinformatic analysis
Open positions:
- PhD Position in Acoustofluidics and Biomedical Device Engineering
- Postdoctoral Position in Acoustofluidics and Biomedical Device Engineering
- Coming soon: Joint Postdoctoral Position in Acoustic Vesicle Loading and Membrane Biophysics
- Master’s Students & Interns: Project opportunities are available throughout the year in acoustofluidics, device microfabrication, and EV-characterization.
If you are curious, creative, and passionate about developing new technologies at the interface of physics, engineering, and biology, we’d love to hear from you.
Lab rotations (MoBi, MSSE)
Interested in applying physics and engineering to biological questions? Join our Biomedical Microfluidics group and explore how ultrasound and microfluidic technologies can isolate, manipulate and load extracellular vesicles for diagnostic and therapeutic applications.
Depending on your project, you can gain hands-on experience in microfluidic device fabrication, 3D printing and rapid prototyping, acoustic particle manipulation, extracellular vesicle characterisation or quantitative data analysis using Python. Projects are tailored to your interests and experience, with guidance throughout your rotation.
We welcome students from Molecular Biotechnology (MoBi) and Molecular Systems Science and Engineering (MSSE) for lab rotations in the section Biophysical Chemistry.
Please contact michael.gerlt@imseam.uni-heidelberg.de with a brief description of your interests and your preferred rotation dates (german is also fine :).
