Welcome to the Gerlt Group Biomedical Microfluidics

.

Our research focuses on developing acoustofluidic technologies that use sound waves and microfluidic flow fields to precisely manipulate particles, cells, and extracellular vesicles at the micro- and nanoscale. We combine microfabrication, experimental methods and numerical modeling to design and build devices that enable new analytical and therapeutic applications. Our interdisciplinary approach bridges physics, engineering, and biomedicine to advance next-generation tools for diagnostics, drug delivery, and precision medicine. This junior research group is supported by the European Research Council (ERC) and the Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung (CZS).

Student Projects

Are you fascinated by the combination of microfluidics and acoustics and interested in exploring how extracellular vesicles could enable the early detection of diseases such as cancer?
We offer internships, lab rotations, bachelor’s theses, and master’s theses at the interface of microfluidics, acoustics, and biomedical engineering.
